1 Which book are you currently reading?
I'm currently reading a book called The Promoters, it's a book about the history of Australian touring and well, promoters basically.
I really like reading biography's and things of a historical nature. Up next is Spray Paint the Walls, the story of Black Flag!

2. Do you smoke?
I used to smoke a lot of pot, for many years. In Australia we mix marijuana with tobacco, so in a sense I guess I did smoke, though I've since quite.

3. When was the last time you got angry?
I tour manage bands for a living and I got angry recently on Dead Meadows Australian tour because the rental car company stuffed up my booking and send my van to a different location, we had to wait around at the airport tired and frustrated for 45 minutes for them to retrieve it. That kind of sucked.

4. When was the last time you laughed until you cried?
On tour recently with Dead Meadow, hands down the funniest and most enjoyable band to tour. Steve Kille their bassist is a bloody comedian.

5. Was there a movie that you could not bear to see until its the end?
Back to the Future, all three films. Best trilogy ever! Star Wars comes in at a close second, then Indiana Jones. Three killer trilogy's.

6. What character would you have liked to have played?
Michael J Fox in Back to the Future, best trilogy ever! I want to go back to the 60's and see the Velvet Underground, John Coltrane Sun Ra and Syd Barett era Pink Floyd, I also want to buy a few vintage Mosrites Ventures, Fender Jazzmasters and a couple of Orange OR120 amps.

7. "Law & Order", "Special Victim Unit" or "Criminal Intent"?
Law and Order hands down, they have Ice T......

8. Who do you currently have a crush on?
Cara Beltrame, she's my spiritual sugar moma. Belinda Butcher from My Bloody Valentine comes in at a close second. After those two there's a few others, but yea, best keeping that shit a secret.

9. What's the best moment of your day?
The period in the morning after you have a nice hot shower and you're making your first cup of coffee of the day, damn near paradise!
I also like the period of the day when you check Ebay and find out you won that record you placed a bid on the night before.

10. What song of yours do you think is your best?
Sabbat Noir by Monarch, that record and piece of music is a major highlight in my musical career.

George Chen of Kit

1. Which book are you currently reading?
I finally got a copy of Oran Canfield's memoir "Long Past Stopping." I'm usually reading 3 at a time very slowly, so also the "Difference Engine" and I procrastinate on those by reading comics.

2. Do you smoke?
Never have.

3. When was the last time you got angry?
A few days ago. I went on tour in April and May and had a subletter who would not return calls or pay me for about a month after getting back. Finally got her to start paying me in installments. Now she's claiming she slipped the final $200 in cash under my door which I never received and most likely never happened. I'm usually pretty trusting, so this is particularly irksome. So I found out she is going out of town and is now trying to sublet her place! Scheming some ideas for revenge.

4. When was the last time you laughed until you cried?
This has never happened as far as I'm aware. My humor is dry.

5. Was there a movie that you could not bear to see untill its the end?
Don't think I've ever walked out of the theater, but there are many movies I've fallen asleep during. My fault mostly, not theirs.

6. What character would you have liked to have played?
Voice over for Garfield.

7. "Law & Order", "Special Victim Unit" or "Criminal Intent"?
I have probably seen SVU the most, but it's not really my favorite. I don't want to badmouth Ice-T cause he Googles himself a lot.

8. Who do you currently have a crush on?
I have a few. Aubrey Plaza.

9. What's the best moment of your day?
Walking somewhere in the sun.

10. What song of yours do you think is your best?
I'm pretty stoked on the last song on "Invocation", it's called "Broke Heart." It feels like a new direction for our music.

George Chen plays in KIT, who just released their album Invocation in Europe on Upset The Rhythm. It comes out Nov 9th in the US.

Xavier Dubois of Ultraphallus / Y.E.R.M.O.

1. Which book are you currently reading?
I'm now finishing one hell of a book: Roberto Bolaño "The Savage Detectives". Next are Thomas Pynchon "Inherent Vice", Rodrigo Fresán "Mantra", Derek Bailey " Improvisation" and Kathy Acker "Blood and guts in high school". ONE book at a time, please.

2. Do you smoke?
No.

3. When was the last time you got angry?
A few days ago, when I realised that my Beefeater24 bottle was empty. When I was listening to death-metal in my living room and my girlfriend turned down the volume. When I'm in the classroom teaching then realising that most students are busy downloading shit on their computers and/or laughing at me. When I watch the news about the political situation here in Belgium. When I have to remove my shoes at the airport. When I have to mow the yard. But most of time I'm a peacefully nice boy. Words!

4. When was the last time you laughed until you cried?
I laugh quite often and cry from time to time. Usually the two are separated.

5. Was there a movie that you could not bear to see until its end?
I usually watch the entire thing. But I can give you a few names: "Requiem for a dream"...what a awful crap! "Slumdog Millionaire" really disgusted me. Never watched a movie so full of cliché, vulgar, superficial. I think it's one of the most overly simplistic movie I ever saw. "Into the wild" was quite irritating. Thanx God, the boy died at the end. Oh! and those Eddie Vedder songs through the all movie...Damn!

6. What character would you have liked to have played?
Fonzy. Happy days. He's real! The bad cop played by Harvey Keitel in "Bad Lieutenant".

7. "Law & Order", "Special Victim Unit" or "Criminal Intent"?
What the fuck?!?

8. Who do you currently have a crush on?
Man, that's a hard one. My girlfriend is probably reading. I can't tell you everything. "Nothing is as boring as the truth". Find who said that!

9. What's the best moment of your day?
Anything that involve sexual activity, good book, black coffee, discovering new sounds, riffs, "new way to pay old debts", a good movie with my girlfriend asleep on my shoulder, listening to Carcass while driving ...
And, of course, a delicious Gin Tonic. Forget Gordon Gin. Put the price and get Beefeater24.

10. What song of yours do you think is your best?
The next one. Not composed yet.
Well, ok: "Womanizer" on "The Clever" and "The Red Print" on forthcoming album "Sowberry Hagan"...a 9 minutes long track with Eugene Robinson. Soon on RIOT SEASON!

Born in Liège, Belgium, guitar player Xavier Dubois is a member of Ultraphallus and one half of electroacoustic project Y.E.R.M.O. He's also a solo performer, focusing on improvisation and country. Y.E.R.M.O. took part at the last contemporary arts exhibition in Venice last year, taking care of the "Collision Zone" sound installation. Ultraphallus is going to release its third album "Sowberry Hagan" very soon on UK label RIOT SEASON.
